30 Million Americans Could Buy An EV As Their Next Car

As many as 30 million Americans could be about to buy an electric car, according to a AAA survey that definitely has to be taken with a pinch of salt.
The study found that rising driving ranges, lower purchase prices and more infrastructure were reasons why one in every seven of the nation’s inhabitants are warming to the idea to the point of parting with cash.
For Millennials, that figure rises to one in five Americans, suggesting that younger people are far more accepting of new technologies and cleaner cars. Across all ages, though, it’s Tesla leading the charge (fnar) to improve public perceptions of electric cars.

Greg Brannon, AAA’s director of Automotive Engineering said:
“Tesla — a standout in AAA’s evaluations — has helped widen the appeal of electric vehicles by showing they can be stylish, performance-focused and filled with cutting-edge technology.”
This news comes despite US petrol prices being around 40
per cent lower than they were five years ago. Hybrids are also doing
well in the public opinion stakes, says the study, with 70 per cent of
those questioned rating fuel economy as ‘an important factor’ in
choosing their next car, compared to 50 per cent for safety tech, 48 per
cent for brand and 34 per cent for technology.
